In the Great Bear Rainforest on the coastal islands of British Columbia, there lives a rare & magnificent creature known as the Spirit bear (the "Kermode" bear). While the bear's fur is usually a beautiful black, about 1 in 10 is born a snowy white due to a recessive gene mutation. Folklore states that the bears got their color during the last ice age when white was needed for camouflage. Representing peace and a reminder of more difficult times, these bears are critical to the local ecosystem. This earthy design showcases the bear in its natural habitat but with a ring of focus, paying homage to such a rare beauty.
